During the recession from 2002-2012, Mayor Smith fought hard for the citizens of Irvington by bringing businesses back to Chancellor Avenue, Lyons Avenue, Mill Road, and Springfield Avenue. His leadership helped to redevelop community parks, encourage more participation from block associations, civic groups and public service advocacy organizations.
